Why is China so interested in Taiwan?

For the Chinese Communist Party, Taiwan is the ultimate prize. It’s the last piece in its quest to take back all of China’s territories from colonial powers or another foreign rule. It’s also a symbol of Chinese nationalism and a key driver of legitimacy for the party.

While analyzing Why Does China Want Taiwan, we found that China has long considered Taiwan a “renegade province.” The party sees itself as the legitimate successor to the first Chinese republic, established in 1912 after thousands of years of imperial dynasties.

The People’s Republic of China (PRC) formally considers Taiwan, an island off its coast, a “breakaway province” that will be reconnected with the continent in the future.

Conclusion

South Korea has not been recognized or admitted into NATO and thus is not, in any way, a member of the organization. South Korea has its military, with plenty of funding and resources, which doesn’t make them members either. Is Taiwan a NATO Member? Taiwan is not in NATO. It isn’t even a member of the United Nations.
