Breve fundamentación del simposio: Over the last decade, there has been a clear tendency on the part of Latin American citizens to look for new, effective channels of participation in the political decisions that affect them. In this section we are looking for answers to the question: have these demands for participation given rise to a more participative model of democracy in the region? It has been argued that the structural and cultural transformations in Latin America -mainly the impact of globalisation and the political changes caused by the processes of democratisation – have generated new types of collective action. In order to identify, analyse and evaluate these new forms of political participation, as well as their potential to improve the quality of democracy in Latin America, we would like to invite researchers from all disciplines to present papers in English, Spanish, Portuguese or French.

Palabras claves: Political Participation, Transformations, Latin America, Social Movements.
